Creatine kinases and arginine kinases are an historical model in enzymology. They belong to the large family of phosphagen kinases which transfer a phosphoryl group from ATP to a nitrogen atom within a guanidinium group to form that was called by the early muscle physiologists a 'phosphagen'.
