Applying mathematics to biology has a long history, but only recently has there been an explosion of interest in the field. Some reasons for this include: the explosion of data-rich information sets, due to the genomics revolution, which are difficult to understand without the use of analytical tools, recent development of mathematical tools such as chaos theory to help understand complex, non-linear mechanisms in biology, an increase in computing power which enables calculations and simulations to be performed that were not previously possible, and an increasing interest in in-silico experimentation due to the complications involved in human and animal research.

Preface; Biological complexity by natural selection and self-organisation: a game of survival; Epidemiological Modelling for the Real World; On the Topology of Foliations with Singularities of Morse Type; Structure-dynamics relationships of metabolic networks: The susceptibility-responsivity connection of enzymes; Haptotaxis in Pre-necrotic Avascular Tumours; Mathematical Anaylsis of a Cholera Model with Carriers and Assessing the Effects of Treatment; Mathematical Models and Parameter Estimation for Heterogeneous Cell Population Dynamics; Immuno-Epidemiology and HIV/AIDS: A Modelling Prospective; Mathematical Models of Particle Deposition and Bronchial Clearance in the Human Respiratory Tract - A Review; Systems Biology of the Tryptophan Operon; Non-Linear Transmission, Mortality and Stability of Discrete-Time Infectious Disease Models; Mathematical Stability Analysis in Biomechanical Applications; The Behaviour of the Lipid Vesicle Under Osmotic Stress; Index.
