The Combat History of U.S. Army Tank Battalions in the Pacific in World War II

Although the history of armor in World War II has captured the attention of countless authors, no one has yet chronicled the extensive use of tanks in the Pacific--until now. In comprehensive detail Gene Eric Salecker describes the exploits of American tanks on the jungle islands where troops engaged in savage combat and encountered unforgiving weather and terrain. Stationed in the Philippines when the Japanese attacked the islands in 1941, the U.S. Army's independent tank battalions fought from the very start of the war. From New Guinea and the Solomons to the Ryukyus, American armor proved instrumental in winning World War II in the Pacific.

Romania and World War II

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of World War 2 in Europe, the Center for Romanian Studies organised an international conference on ‘Romania and World War II' in Iasi from 25-26 May 1995. The conference was organised with help from the County Board of Iasi and the Romanian Foundation for Humanitarian Assistance ‘Michael the Brave'. The conference, held at the historic Palace of Culture in Iasi, united scholars from Romania, the United States, England, and Holland. It provided an opportunity for these distinguished specialists in the history of Romania and World War 2 to present the latest results of their research, especially in light of the recent opening of many archives in the former communist bloc countries. This volume includes papers based on the communications delivered at the conference. As both Romanian and English were used at the conference, the articles are published in the language in which they were prepared by their author. Fifteen in Romanian and six in English.

From Guadalcanal to Bougainville Pacific War Turning Point

The follow-up to 'The Amphibians Are Coming!', this second volume covers all the Solomons Campaigns and tells the story of America’s first offensive after Pearl Harbor. Part I, 'The Southern Solomons Campaigns', is excerpted from Volumes IV and V of distinguished naval historian Samuel Loring Morison’s ‘History of United States Naval Operations in World War II’, and covers the bloody six-month struggle for Guadalcanal. Part II, 'The Central Solomons Campaigns', chronicles the amphibious operations in the New Georgia Islands group, including the five separate landings at Rendova, Segi Point, Viru Harbor, Wickham Anchorage, and Rice Anchorage. Part III, 'The Northern Solomons Campaigns', recounts the seizure of the Treasury Islands, the Choiseul Diversion, the Bougainville campaign, and sums up the many valuable lessons learned during the Solomons Campaigns -- most becoming doctrine in later Pacific campaigns.

The illegal press in Denmark opposing German occupation grew to impressive size and influence by the end of World War II. Buts its origins were modest, springing up from the small banned Danish Community Party and informal friendship groups in 1941.

They Were So Young : Montrealers Remember WWII

After visiting her cousin's grave in the Canadian military cemetery at Bretteville-sur-Laize in Normandy, Patricia Burns returned to Montreal with a determination to record the stories of veterans of World War II.
